Draft Proposed Pre-Standard

A European consortium, known as SPOTS, has developed a draft proposed pre-standard for optical techniques used to measure strain fields.  This document has been reviewed by a group of members of TWA26 and is being passed to VAMAS for approval prior to submission to ISO as a proposed draft Technology Trend Assessment (TTA).  Comments on the documents from the user community are welcome.  Please download the documents below then send your comments and contact details to Eann Patterson at Michigan State University.

Part I

Reference Material for Optical Methods of Strain Measurement

Describes materials and procedures that can be used to calibrate any optical instrument that is to be used for measuring strain fields.  It is independent of the technique being employed.

Part II

Standardised Test Materials for Optical Methods of Strain Measurement

Describes materials and procedures that can be used to evaluate the fitness for purpose of any optical instrument that is to be used for measuring strain fields.  It is independent of the technique being employed and presents strain fields that will be challenging to the most sophisticated instruments.

Drawings/Round Robin

If you want to conduct a trial with either the reference material from part 1 above or the physical standardized test material in part 2 above then the drawing files below maybe useful.  We would appreciate receiving copies of your results so that we can construct an international round-robin exercise.

Please send results to Richard Burguete at Airbus in Bristol, UK
